KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) posted a lower net profit of RM365.48 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2026 (2Q 2026), compared with RM402.97 million in the corresponding quarter last year.

Revenue rose to RM2.96 billion from RM2.77 billion previously, supported by sustained demand for data, information and communications technology (ICT) and other telecommunication services.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, TM said operating profit before other gains and finance costs (EBIT) fell to RM545.5 million from RM640.0 million in 2Q 2025.

“The decline reflects costs recognised under the group’s continued Prihatin initiative to accommodate voluntary separation requests from employees seeking early retirement or career transitions, as well as strategic investment in the Fifa World Cup 2026 sponsorship,” it said.

The Prihatin initiative is a programme that accommodates voluntary separation requests from employees seeking early retirement or career transitions.

Separately, TM group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said the group’s overall performance demonstrates how its PWR 2030 (Pioneer, Win, Revitalise) strategy is delivering tangible progress across the group.

“We have taken bold but necessary strategic actions in the first half to strengthen TM’s efficiency, competitiveness and profitability in the long run.

“With the disciplined execution we continue to demonstrate, coupled with our focus on growing higher-value recurring revenue across all customer segments, we remain on track to deliver our financial year 2026 guidance and value-creation commitments, including sustainable shareholder returns,” he said.

PWR 2030 is TM’s longer-term corporate strategy to transform the group and strengthen its businesses through 2030.

The board also declared a second interim single-tier dividend of 7.0 sen per share for the financial year ending December 31, 2026, payable on September 18, 2026, bringing total dividends declared for the first half to 13.5 sen per share. — Bernama
