Children from Sedidik kindergartens in the Samarahan zone put on a performance at the event.

Sedidik Sarawak is poised to enhance its early childhood education offerings with the introduction of four childcare centres and one kindergarten in the upcoming year.

The general manager, Ayub Dahari, indicated that multiple applications for operating permits were submitted this year. While some have received approval, others are still in the planning stages and awaiting final clearance from the respective authorities.

Plans for New Centres

“Initial planning has already commenced, but we are still waiting for the complete permit process to be finalized. For instance, the workplace childcare centre at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak is scheduled for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing during the university’s upcoming convocation,” he explained.

“We are also anticipating permit approval for childcare centres affiliated with the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS), and operations will begin once approval is granted,” Ayub added.

“If we cannot start operations in the first quarter, we will aim for the second quarter of next year,” he stated during a meeting with reporters after the Sedidik Samarahan Zone’s 34th convocation.

Future Developments

Ayub mentioned that another childcare centre is planned for Taman Wangsan in Mukah, with hopes that approval will be secured shortly.

“In addition, we aim to establish a workplace childcare centre at Hospital Sibu next year, pending the finalization of an agreement with the relevant parties,” he said.

Regarding the curriculum, Ayub noted that Sedidik Sarawak has been implementing a special syllabus that includes basic sign language since 2020.

“This initiative was inspired by Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah. The goal is to help children understand that there are individuals who differ from them. Learning sign language adds an additional benefit,” he shared.

Focus on Empathy and Inclusion

“However, the primary objective is to nurture children to be more caring, empathetic, and considerate towards others with different abilities,” he continued.

“Children with minor developmental differences may be enrolled for observation and support, while those with more serious conditions will be encouraged to seek assessment and treatment from medical specialists at hospitals,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, a total of 110 children from 12 Sedidik kindergartens in the Samarahan zone were celebrated as ‘young graduates’.

Also present at the convocation were Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang and his wife Datin Nurhidayah Hussain.
