The Sarawak International Art Camp (SIAC) 2025 brought together artists from 14 countries, connecting Sarawak to the world through creativity, understanding, and friendship.
The second edition of the programme was officiated by Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission-DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
Artistic Collaboration and Future Events
In his speech, Dr Abdul Rahman announced that the DBKU would hold its first art festival next year, in celebration of the 38th Kuching City Day.
“The state government and DBKU have always been supporting the advancement of arts, culture and creative education here,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the president of the Sarawak Artists Society (SAS), Sebastian Jong, highlighted that the five-day art camp provided a platform for artists to exchange creative techniques and ideas while gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures, languages, and perspectives.
Shared Experiences and Cultural Exchange
“These shared experiences brought us together to strengthen our friendships,” Jong noted.
“The programme also contributed to the growth of our local art scene and enhanced public awareness of its value through this meaningful exchange,” he added.
Running from December 11 to 15, the art camp encouraged participants to explore Kuching city and its cultural landmarks for inspiration for their artworks, which will be showcased in an exhibition at Chung Hua Middle School No 4 until December 21, open from 9 am to 4 pm daily.
The artists participating come from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Germany.
