Two Temporary Evacuation Centres Continue to House Flood Victims in Miri
MIRI (Oct 21) โ Authorities keep two temporary evacuation centres in the Miri district operational as they aid residents displaced by the recent torrential rains.
The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee reports that 22 individuals from six families are currently accommodated. Sixteen evacuees (four families) are housed at Dewan Suarah Miri, while six others (two families) are at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Senadin complex.
Three other relief centres โ located at SK Pujut, SK Merbau, and a community hall โ have been shut down after residents returned home following the receding floodwaters.
The flooding started late Monday when extended heavy rainfall caused local rivers to burst their banks. Access roads to several low-lying areas were briefly blocked, but most have now reopened. There were no additional evacuations overnight.
Officials state they are tracking weather updates and organizing cleanup efforts, while providing the remaining evacuees with meals, bedding, and health assessments. When conditions allow, the sheltered families are expected to return home in the next few days.
