The Litan Bursary was recently awarded to four deserving students from SMJK Shan Tao, Likas, through the commendable efforts of the Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera, led by President Ken Chong.

This philanthropic initiative, rooted in Singapore, was established by the Rotary Club’s Past District Governor Henry Tan. He communicated with Assistant Governor Francis Ng and Past President Emily Chong about the desire of his friend, Singaporean philanthropist Philip Tan, to support exceptional Form Five students in their academic pursuits.

Students Selected for the Bursary

The Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera was responsible for selecting four outstanding SPM candidates who will be sitting for their examinations next year. The recipients of the bursary are Alden Vun Yuen Fan, Theone Fanny Thane, Flavia Fabiana Incarnasion Delos Santos, and Efelyn Su Yi Sumping.

These students were chosen based on three critical criteria: academic excellence, commendable discipline, and genuine financial need, with a priority given to candidates from B40 households. Each student will benefit from a one-year educational grant aimed at alleviating the costs associated with their schooling and daily living.

Ceremony and Support

On December 1, 2025, members of the Rotary Club, including President Ken Chong and Assistant Governor Francis Ng, participated in the official presentation ceremony held at SMJK Shan Tao.

Before the ceremony, the students and their parents signed the bursary agreements, marking a significant milestone in the students’ academic journeys. The event also saw the presence of School Principal Elizabeth Mak and Senior Assistant Yee Yip Ngo, whose collaboration was instrumental in the successful implementation of the programme.

Other notable members from the Rotary Club included Past President Datuk Verus Aman Sham, Past President Christina Aluda, and Immediate Past President Dr. Richard Gontusan, along with several Form Three students from the school.
