Residents of Sungai Mador can now enjoy safer and smoother access following the ahead-of-schedule completion of an iron bridge.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing stated that the RM250,000 project, implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), kicked off on Sept 18 this year and was originally slated for completion on March 17 next year.

Project Completion

“However, the contractor delivered the project early on Dec 10, thanks to strong commitment and close supervision from technical agencies,” he mentioned during his visit.

“The newly-completed structure, built with an 18m I-Beam frame and a width of 4m, serves as a vital link for at least five longhouses in the area,” he added.

“It will support daily vehicle movement and help residents transport agricultural produce such as pepper, oil palm, and fruits.”

Impact on Local Community

Ding pointed out that the previous bridge was no longer safe, especially during the rainy season when the river level rose.

He noted that the new bridge should significantly boost local economic activity.

“This project reflects the state government’s continued commitment to providing rural communities with safer, modern, and resilient infrastructure,” he stated.

Accompanying Ding during the visit were Department of Irrigation and Drainage Sarikei assistant officer Embly Braji, as well as community leaders Pemanca Agan Luat and Pemanca Yii Hee Sieng.
