Sarawak’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday participated with hundreds of worshippers at the year-end and new-year Hijrah prayer ceremony held at the Permyjaya New Mosque in Miri. The gathering signified the closure of 1444 Hijrah and the commencement of 1445 Hijrah on the Islamic calendar.
Also in attendance were state and local community leaders, religious authorities and representatives of various non-governmental organisations. The ceremony concluded with a collective doa munajat invoking blessings for the new Hijrah year, after which participants shared iftar in a modest majlis.
