Lisa Hassan Alban
Sungai Sibuga assemblywoman Lisa Hassan Alban has urged the government to create dedicated units or ministries aimed at protecting Sabah’s identity, resources, and rights as established under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Lisa expressed her support for the government’s recent renaming and functional expansion of five ministries, describing this shift as both necessary and positive.
Concerns Regarding Transparency
Despite this, she raised concerns about the transparency surrounding the rebranding efforts, pointing out that the official cost was reported as merely RM10.
“Signboards, uniforms, and official documents entail genuine costs. The rakyat deserves clarity, and this Dewan deserves transparency,” she stated during the discussion of the Sabah Budget 2026 at the state assembly.
Furthermore, Lisa pointed out ongoing issues within her constituency.
Addressing Constituency Issues
Severe water shortages persist in villages like Kampung Tinusa 2, where thousands have waited six years for access to clean water.
Compounding the problem are low water pressure and illegal connections, while the department responsible for water management lacks the necessary staff to meet the growing demand.
Additionally, concerns regarding road safety and urban planning were highlighted as urgent matters.
Residents face risks due to dangerous roads, potholes, and inadequate street lighting, and without proper intervention, traffic congestion in densely populated areas like Kampung Tinusa 2 will likely escalate.
“If the government allocates only RM20 for city planning in these regions, meaningful progress is improbable,” she cautioned.
Demand for Government Action
Lisa emphasized that government commitments alone are insufficient.
“I cannot fully support this budget until the government implements clear, decisive, and measurable actions to tackle the issues faced by people in my constituency and across Sabah. The community needs action, not mere words,” she asserted.
