SIBU (Dec 12): Three spots along Lorong Sentosa Utara 8 in Kampung Usahajaya Baharu continue to experience ponding issues, said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman, Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.

He shared the update on Facebook on Thursday following an on-site inspection prompted by drainage concerns raised by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng and local residents.

Izkandar said the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) has advised that the existing drains be dug out to allow water to flow more efficiently into the main DID drain.

“SMC’s Engineering Section has also recommended that digging works be completed before any levelling works can proceed, while the SMC Public Health Section has been requested to inspect drainage conditions at all three affected spots,” he said.

He assured that the council is taking the issue seriously and will continue monitoring the sites to ensure that the necessary measures are implemented.

Izkandar also thanked residents for their patience and feedback.
