Seven young dancers from Sarawak have achieved international acclaim by winning seven championship titles at the 2025 World Children and Youth Dance Competition. This remarkable accomplishment highlights the growing influence of the State in the global performing arts arena.

These talented performers, representing Tyng Dance Academy, captivated the judges with their routines that blended technical precision, artistic maturity, and cultural depth, competing against emerging talents from various regions.

Competition Overview

The competition, organized by The World Youth Talent Education Association (Hong Kong) and held on December 12, gathered children and youth performers across multiple age groups and dance disciplines. The evaluation was based on both technical excellence and expressive quality.

Among the champions was Calla Roa Tayan Salang, who won the Solo Ballet title in the Teenagers Group (12–13 years). Additionally, she teamed up with Teo Wei Tien to secure the championship in the Duo Ballet category for the same age group.

Teo Wei Tien further contributed to Sarawak’s accolades by winning the Solo Ballet title in the Pre-Teens Group (10–11 years), while Tryna Wong E Qin triumphed in the Solo Ballet Teenagers Group.

In the national dance categories, Sharleen Teo Chiia Ning claimed the Solo National Dance title in the Young Adults Group (16–18 years). In the Open Group (19 years and above), Winnie Chong Yee Tze and Janice Liaw Qian Ning achieved the Duo National Dance champion title, while Chai Sin Yee secured the Solo National Dance title.

Podium Finishes and Reflections

In addition to their seven championship victories, Sarawak’s dancers also achieved notable podium finishes. Germaine Hii Xin Jing finished as runner-up in the Solo National Dance Youth Group (14–15 years), while Irelene Chan Eng Xi secured second place in the Solo Ballet Open Group. Jessie Chee Yi Wen placed third in the Solo Ballet Young Children Group (6–7 years).

Commenting on this achievement, Chan Tyng Tyng, spokesperson for Tyng Dance Academy, expressed that the outcomes are a testament to years of dedicated training and community support.

“This achievement is not merely about titles. It showcases what can be accomplished when young individuals are provided with the right environment, guidance, and time to flourish while staying true to their roots,” she remarked.

She also noted that this success signifies the ongoing development of Sarawak’s performing arts ecosystem and indicates the rise of a new generation of cultural ambassadors ready to confidently represent themselves on the international stage.
