The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) has achieved remarkable success, recording seizures totaling RM9.9 million across 15 operations conducted statewide. This was reported by its commander, SAC Lim Bak Phai.
During these operations, a variety of illegal items were confiscated, including illicit cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, subsidised controlled goods, frozen food products, and fireworks.
Details of the Operations
“These integrated operations involved thorough inspections of premises, vehicles, and border areas. This led to the arrest of numerous individuals and the seizure of substantial quantities of goods,” Lim stated.
Among the most significant successes was an operation around Miri, where authorities seized over 4,900 cartons of cigarettes and 12,500 litres of alcoholic beverages valued at more than RM2.5 million, along with the arrest of six locals.
The GOF also successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle controlled goods worth hundreds of thousands of ringgit, including red onions, sugar, cooking oil, and subsidised diesel, in various districts such as Lundu, Siburan, Lubok Antu, and Bau.
Continued Efforts and Future Operations
Furthermore, operations in the Sri Aman border area revealed packages of alcoholic beverages believed to be part of smuggling attempts.
“Several other raids led to the discovery of frozen products without permits and illegal storage of fireworks,” he added.
Cases have been transferred to relevant agencies for further investigation according to legal provisions.
From January 1 to December 16 of this year, the Sarawak GOF recorded total seizures valued at RM404.9 million involving 623 cases, with 741 individuals arrested and 362 vehicles of various types seized.
“The Sarawak GOF is committed to intensifying operations to combat smuggling activities and cross-border crimes for the safety and interests of the country,” he concluded.
