Saadiah delivering her speech

Sabah Electricity (SE) has made a commitment to openly address the pressing power issues affecting the region. The chairwoman, Saadiah Aziz, has recognized that the challenges of shortages and reliability are still impacting households, hospitals, and businesses across the state.

She emphasized that the people of Sabah deserve a stable and reliable electricity supply, and the utility is taking decisive measures to rectify longstanding deficiencies within the electricity system.

Urgent Actions for Improvement

“We will not sugar coat the reality. Sabah continues to face shortages and reliability issues, and our citizens deserve better,” she stated during the inauguration of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Sabah International Convention Centre.

Saadiah mentioned that the company is hastening its efforts across various areas, including generation, transmission, distribution, and retail operations.

These initiatives aim to enhance the entire energy ecosystem and minimize the frequency and extent of interruptions that have affected numerous regions in Sabah.

A Vision for the Future

She highlighted that Sabah is entering a new phase where the momentum towards a more stable and modern electricity system is accelerating.

According to her, the state can no longer afford to postpone necessary improvements essential for social and economic advancement.

“The progress of Sabah relies on a robust and dependable power system. We are dedicated to ensuring that our grid, infrastructure, and planning meet future demands,” she remarked.

Saadiah further articulated that electricity transcends technical service; it is a cornerstone for dignity, opportunity, and progress.

She noted that a consistent supply is crucial for schools, hospitals, rural areas, and local businesses that rely on steady and predictable energy.

“Electricity influences opportunities at all societal levels. From classrooms to clinics, and from small businesses to large industries, reliable power fosters growth and uplifts communities,” she concluded.

Saadiah expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms will position Sabah on a more resilient path towards long-term energy stability.
