Nominated assemblyman Datuk Roger Chin has put forth a proposal to the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to amend the Federal Constitution. This amendment aims to enable Sabah to collect all revenues at source, ensuring that the federal government receives its 60 per cent share afterward.

During his debate, Chin emphasized that this proposal represents a practical, long-term resolution to the longstanding disputes regarding revenue figures, data, and calculations that have existed between Sabah and the federal government.

Importance of Revenue Clarity

Chin articulated that allowing Sabah to gather revenue at source would promote greater clarity, transparency, and accountability—not only for the state but for the Federation as a whole.

“This is the most practical way to end the long-standing disagreements over numbers. When Sabah collects at source, there will be no ambiguity over figures and accountability will be clear on both sides,” he remarked.

Call for Unanimous Support

He further stated that if the motion garners unanimous support in the Assembly, it would convey a strong and clear message to the federal government that Sabah stands united and is serious about permanently resolving this issue.

Chin noted that this motion would empower Sabah’s MPs with a definitive mandate from the DUN to pursue the necessary constitutional amendments at the federal level.

“This is not political posturing. It is a lawful and institutional step, taken through the proper democratic process,” he asserted.

Chin concluded by committing to ensure that the motion is presented and debated in the Assembly, highlighting that Sabah deserves a revenue system based on verifiable facts rather than enduring negotiations over figures.
