BINTULU (Aug 28): Religious and cultural celebrations play an important role in strengthening community ties and fostering mutual respect in Buntulu’s diverse society, said Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang.
He said such gatherings could provide opportunities for communities to preserve their traditions while promoting greater understanding and harmony among the people.
“What is important is that religious programmes such as this help foster a spirit of mutual respect and appreciation for religious and cultural diversity among the community,” he said this when attending the Hungry Ghost Festival 2026 prayer ceremony carried out by the Wat Buddhakaya Bintulu Buddhist Association here on Thursday.
Pang said the observance also brought devotees together and strengthened bonds within the local community.
He hoped the prayers offered during the ceremony would bring peace, prosperity and wellbeing to all.
