Access to essential healthcare was significantly enhanced for rural residents with more than 300 attendees at a Free Health Screening Community Service Programme. This event took place at the Kampung Tanjung Bundong Community Hall in Tanjong Manis last weekend.

The initiative was organized by the Tanjong Manis Parliamentary Service Centre in collaboration with the Lions Club of Seduan Sibu and Rejang Medical Centre. Participants hailed from various areas including Muara Bunut, Kampung Tanjung Bundong, Sungai Sian, Nangga Bangkit, Selidap, and nearby locales.

Specialist Support and Community Engagement

A total of 14 specialist doctors from Rejang Medical Centre, Oya Clinic, and Sibu Hospital provided free medical screening services to the community. Tanjong Manis MP Dato Ir Yusuf Abdul Wahab emphasized that the presence of these specialists offered invaluable access to health screenings and professional medical advice at no cost to residents in remote areas.

He highlighted the importance of such programs in raising awareness about early health screenings, which can help detect illnesses before they escalate into more serious conditions.

“This health screening programme is the fourth in a series organized within the Tanjong Manis parliamentary constituency, reflecting ongoing efforts to engage with the community, especially those in remote locations,” he stated.

Comprehensive Health Services and Community Support

Services offered during the programme included eye tests, ear, nose and throat (ENT) screenings, bone examinations, child health services, women’s health services, general surgery consultations, as well as blood and glucose level tests.

Additionally, 100 pairs of free spectacles were distributed to eligible participants, alongside 100 food baskets provided to those in need.

A separate community initiative also took place, featuring a tree-planting activity and the establishment of a Reading Corner at the veranda of Rumah Panjang Bisa Melintang, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and fostering an interest in reading among the rural community.

Notable attendees included Lions Club of Seduan Sibu president Lu Sii Yew, organizing chairman Rosely Phua, Rejang Medical Centre representative Annette Hu, and local community leaders.
