MUKAH (Jan 7): Police arrested a 37-year-old local man after seizing 228 pills believed to be Nospan during a raid at a rented room above a shoplot in the Old Market area here on Tuesday.

Mukah district police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the raid, carried out around 10am, was conducted by the district police narcotics team following information and surveillance.

“During the inspection, the team found 38 plastic packets, each containing six white pills, making a total of 228 pills suspected to be Nospan.

“The seized pills are estimated to be worth RM380,” he said in a statement.

He said a urine test conducted on the suspect returned negative.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

“If convicted, the suspect could face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both,” he added.

Muhamad Rizal said the unemployed suspect has two previous records related to criminal and drug offences.

The suspect has been remanded for two days until Jan 9 to facilitate investigations.
