Local Woman Taken into Custody on Alleged Parcel Theft at Miri Times Square

MIRI, Nov 6 — A 32-year-old local woman was taken into custody yesterday by the Miri police after allegedly pilfering two parcels from a delivery rider at Miri Times Square.

According to Miri District CID chief ACP Raymond Kendang, the report was filed on Nov 3 when the deliveryman noticed that two packages—one containing a set of wireless earphones and the other a portable power bank, with a combined worth of around RM400—had disappeared from the back of his van while it was parked in the Times Square multilevel car park.

“Footage from the mall’s CCTV system captured a woman walking up to the van, opening the rear doors and removing the parcels,” ACP Raymond stated. “Investigators located the suspect at a residence in Pujut and arrested her without any complications.”

During questioning, the 32-year-old unemployed suspect is said to have confessed to taking the items and selling them to a local pawnshop for quick cash. Police later retrieved both parcels and returned them to their owner.

The suspect faces a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and has been remanded for three days to aid the investigation. ACP Raymond urged the public to always safeguard valuables, even when briefly leaving them unattended in vehicles, and to report any suspicious behavior near delivery vehicles.
