Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman, Councillor Kevin Lau, has praised local community leaders for their crucial contributions to flood relief and development during the ‘1212 Rajang River Night Cruise’ event held recently.
He notably commended the Kapitan and Penghulu for their proactive collaboration during the recent floods, emphasizing their efforts in aiding affected residents to apply for financial assistance and supplies from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Welfare Department, as well as personally delivering the aid.
Infrastructure Achievements and Community Collaboration
These remarks were made at an event co-organized by the village development and security committees (JKKKs) of Bukit Igu, Sungai Sadit Kiri, Sungai Sadit Kanan, Jalan Quarry, Bandar Sibu, and Sungai Dasin Ensurai.
Kevin highlighted that the recent infrastructure improvements in the Bawang Assan area, including road upgrades, drainage enhancements, and street lighting, were a direct result of the strong support and collaboration between his team and the JKKKs.
“These accomplishments are not the work of any single individual,” he stated. “As an essential link between the government and the community, these leaders have fostered close cooperation with relevant agencies to promote local development.”
Strengthening Community Ties
Regarding the night cruise, Kevin noted that it successfully gathered community leaders and committee members from six areas in a warm environment, reinforcing bonds and showcasing the unity of grassroots organizations.
He expressed his pleasure at their ongoing mutual support in managing community matters, stressing that such a spirit must be sustained long-term to enhance public trust.
Kevin reaffirmed his team’s commitment to addressing local issues, pledging to continue collaborating with all JKKKs to build a safer and more progressive future for Bawang Assan.
