LAWAS (Jan 28): Police have arrested an unemployed man in connection with a break-in at a temple in Sundar here, which resulted in losses of around RM1,300.
Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the 43-year-old suspect was detained at 4.29pm on Monday at a house in Sundar following an operation to track him down.
“A police report on the incident was received at 8.57pm on Sunday, after which an operation was launched to locate the suspect,” he said in a statement.
He said police recovered the items reported to have been stolen from the temple.
A background check revealed that the suspect had three previous records related to drugs and crime.
“Urine screening tests found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952,” Liong said.
Separately, Liong said a 21-year-old labourer was arrested during Op Tapis Khas on Monday at 2.50pm here and 0.30 grammes of syabu was seized.
“Urine tests showed the suspect was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while checks found that he has no prior criminal record,” he said.
Meanwhile, three labourers aged 31, 34, and 51 were arrested during separate raids at Jalan Lawas Damit and Jalan Punang here on suspicion of drug abuse.
“Further inspections did not uncover any prohibited items or drugs. However, urine tests found all three suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks showed that one of them has two prior drug-related records,” Liong said.
All the drug-related cases are being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
