KUCHING (Dec 21): The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sarawak detained 55 illegal immigrants in a series of enforcement operations carried out around Kuching and Bau last Friday.
According to JIM Sarawak, the operations were conducted by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, involving 24 officers, and focused on raids, inspections of premises and arrests at several identified locations.
The targeted areas included Siniawan Central, Bau town, and commercial centres around Mile 3 here.
Enforcement teams also inspected several residential units believed to be rented by illegal immigrants in Taman Matang Bersinar and Taman Satria Jaya, as well as a workers’ quarters near the Simpang Tiga roundabout.
“All 55 individuals were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63,” the department said in a statement on Saturday evening.
Those detained were brought to the Kuching Immigration Office for further investigation.
JIM Sarawak stressed that enforcement operations would continue from time to time to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to curb the presence of illegal immigrants in the state.
