A 36-year-old foreign woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while she was trying to cross the road towards Kampung Wireless on Friday night.
The chief of Miri district police, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, reported that the incident took place around 11:30 PM when the victim was hit by a vehicle that was traveling from Miri Airport toward Krokop.
Details of the Incident
According to initial investigations, it is believed that as the vehicle approached Jalan Kampung Wireless, the driver collided with the pedestrian, who was in the middle of the road attempting to cross towards Kampung Wireless.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver did not sustain any injuries, as stated by Mohd Farhan in a statement on Saturday.
Ongoing Investigation
Mohd Farhan also mentioned that the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Furthermore, he urged members of the public who have any information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation by contacting traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or visiting any nearby police station.
He emphasized the importance of road safety, advising all road users to remain cautious and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of everyone.
