KUCHING (Aug 27): About half of the roof of Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian’s family home was damaged after part of it was blown off by strong winds during bad weather here today.
The incident occurred at about 5pm as heavy rain and strong winds swept across several areas in Kuching.
Dr Sim said he was in Bintulu attending a meeting when the incident occurred, while his wife was alone at home.
He said his wife had tried calling him during the incident, but he missed it as his phone was on silent mode.
“I tried calling my wife back but there was no answer. Then my son informed me that the roof of our house had been blown off by the wind.
“I was very worried about my wife’s safety, but I was informed that she was safe,” he said when met by reporters.

He said his family remained at the house while repair work was carried out on the damaged roof.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Energy Berhad personnel were at the scene to ensure the safety of the electricity supply and electrical installations at the house.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng also visited the affected house, as well as several other homes damaged by the strong winds.
