KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The 2026 Fifa World Cup helped drive nearly 400,000 additional downloads of the Unifi TV app, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said today.

TM Group chief executive officer Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said that the encouraging response boosted the platform’s visibility and strengthened its position as a destination for premium live content.

“Let me begin by thanking football fans across Malaysia for their tremendous support during the recent Fifa World Cup 2026. We were proud to have jointly brought that segment of the world’s most anticipated sporting event to our fellow Malaysians

“For TM, this went beyond broadcasting a major sporting event, as it provided us with an opportunity to enrich our customers’ viewing experience,” he said during TM’s second quarter (Q2) and first half (1H) 2026 results briefing at Menara TM here.

The tournament, held from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, saw Unifi TV provide live coverage of all 104 matches through three dedicated channels.

When asked if TM would continue to broadcast football-related events, Huzaimi said that the group would not close its door to any opportunities.

“We are very optimistic in reviewing any potential opportunities for us to work with any parties as long as it is commercially viable for us and yields the right outcome as what we anticipated,” he said during a question-and-answer session.

Beyond sports content, Huzaimi said TM was focused on strengthening Unifi’s overall converged proposition by offering broadband, mobile, premium content and smart home solutions within a single ecosystem.

Through its latest Unifi Home Pro campaign, customers can upgrade to faster internet at a more affordable price while gaining access to a wider range of converged services, he said.

TM is also seeing encouraging demand for its AI-powered smart cameras under its 360 Home Protection campaign, which Huzaimi said had expanded Unifi’s proposition beyond connectivity by offering customers greater security and peace of mind at home.

The group is also enhancing customer support through greater adoption of agentic AI and digital self-care tools.

The stronger consumer offering comes as TM’s B2C Unifi segment recorded a 5.2 per cent increase in revenue to RM2.91 billion in 1H 2026, with its fixed broadband subscriber base remaining stable at 3.23 million.

Overall, TM reported a 6.8 per cent increase in Q2 2026 revenue to RM2.96 billion, while revenue for 1H 2026 rose 4.8 per cent to RM5.90 billion.

Underlying profit after tax and non-controlling interests increased 7 per cent to RM842.6 million in 1H 2026, while reported PATAMI stood at RM687 million.

TM also declared a second interim dividend of 7.0 sen per share, bringing total dividends for the first half to 13.5 sen per share.
