Sarawak’s own airline AirBorneo revealed intentions to introduce two global services in 2027, expanding its reach past its current domestic schedule.

Starting in March next year, the carrier will fly three round-trip connections each week on the Kuching–Kota Kinabalu sector with an Airbus A320. By June, AirBorneo plans to introduce a daily service between Kuching and Jakarta, boosting ties between Malaysian Borneo and Indonesia.

This expansion follows the green light from Malaysia’s Aviation Commission and Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. These routes form part of the airline’s initiative to drive tourism and leisure travel to and from Sarawak, Sabah and Kalimantan.

Initial one-way tickets are projected to begin at approximately RM250 for Kota Kinabalu and RM400 for Jakarta. According to AirBorneo’s CEO, the broader network will offer passengers greater flexibility and enable local firms to access fresh markets, while advancing the region’s ambition to build a cohesive, Borneo-focused air travel hub.

AirBorneo targets carrying over 150,000 travellers on its fresh international routes by late 2027, with additional route developments under consideration in its medium-term expansion roadmap.
