AirBorneo reveals intentions to start direct operations linking Kota Kinabalu and Singapore by late July, building on its triumph launching the initial Kota Kinabalu–Kuala Lumpur service earlier this month.

As per AirBorneo’s CEO, the KL corridor commenced on June 15 with thrice-weekly round trips using an ATR 72-600 turboprop. The carrier intends to increase frequency to daily departures by August, and ticket sales for the Singapore route will be available within a fortnight. At launch, the Kota Kinabalu–Singapore service is projected to run three times a week, likewise utilising ATR 72s.

AirBorneo describes the Singapore connection as a cornerstone of its expansion plan to enhance links for Sabah and adjacent Sarawak, appealing to both holidaymakers and corporate passengers. The airline will offer competitive pricing to draw customers who presently transit through Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok. Management is confident that a nonstop Sabah–Singapore link will substantially reduce travel times and create fresh prospects in tourism, commerce and academic collaborations.

Looking forward, AirBorneo is assessing additional Bornean destinations like Miri and Kuching, while also considering other overseas routes past Singapore. Executives report ongoing discussions with regional regulators to confirm required slots and ground support services.

Utilising its fleet of ATR 72-600s—each accommodating 68 travellers—AirBorneo seeks to establish a strong presence in the regional turboprop sector via direct routes that avoid congested hubs. Should the Singapore service proceed as scheduled, it will represent the airline’s inaugural international offering.
