A man from Indonesia surrendered to Sabah authorities yesterday, one day after allegedly inflicting 14 knife wounds on his wife inside their rented residence. District police report that the 34-year-old came to the Beaufort station late Thursday night and handed himself over peacefully.

Police say the pair, both Indonesian citizens, were residing in Inanam on temporary work permits. The 30-year-old victim suffered several lacerations to her arms, torso and face. Neighbours called for help after hearing screams from the apartment at around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers and medical staff discovered her conscious but gravely injured; she was immediately taken to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital for urgent care.

In his account to detectives, the husband confessed to assaulting his wife with a kitchen knife amid an argument—he alleged jealousy over suspected infidelity. No other arms were used, and neighbours told authorities they’d never heard any previous altercations at the pair’s home.

He is remanded for seven days and charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. A conviction carries up to 20 years’ imprisonment and caning. The victim remains under intensive medical care; doctors say despite the severity of her injuries, recovery is likely.

District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Rosli urged anyone experiencing marital or mental-health difficulties to reach out early to social services or counselling hotlines, cautioning that domestic conflicts can rapidly turn into life-threatening incidents.
