The Anglican Diocese of Kuching is set to receive six new clergy at an ordination ceremony at St. Thomas’ Cathedral in Miri on Saturday, April 19. Right Reverend Danald Jute, Bishop of Kuching, will officiate as five men are ordained to the priesthood and one to the diaconate.
All candidates have completed the diocese’s theological training programme. Once ordained, the new priests will be assigned to parishes throughout Sarawak, where they’ll lead worship, administer sacraments, and oversee pastoral care. The newly ordained deacon will support liturgical services and community outreach under the guidance of a senior priest.
The ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. and will feature Holy Communion, the laying on of hands, and prayers of blessing. Relatives, friends, and parishioners from across the state are expected to attend and encourage the ordinands as they launch their ministries.
Bishop Jute has urged the entire church community to pray for these six men as they assume the duties of ordained ministry. He also appealed to lay members to extend hospitality and mentorship in the months ahead.
