KUCHING (April 8): Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of two Sarawakian teacher trainees who drowned during a kayaking activity in Kedah.
In a Facebook post, he said he would do his best to assist in follow-up matters, including liaising with authorities in Kuala Lumpur and facilitating legal assistance if necessary.
“Extremely sad we lost fellow Sarawakians… both young lives unnecessarily, tragically cut short by the incident,” he said, extending his deepest condolences to the victims’ families.
He said this after leading a delegation from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) to pay last respects to the late Christopher Ling on Tuesday.
Both Christopher, from Kuching, and Joey Ling, from Sibu, were involved in the fatal kayaking incident at Pantai Merdeka near Sungai Petani, Kedah on April 4.
They were undergoing training at the Perlis campus of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG).
The remains of Christopher arrived in Kuching on Tuesday, with the funeral service scheduled for tomorrow (April 9).
