SAMARAHAN (March 18): Motorists in Sarawak have been urged to exercise extra caution when making U-turns on major roads, particularly along the Pan Borneo Highway, following frequent accidents at these locations.
State Deputy Police Commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said that while most areas in the state are not considered accident hotspots, U-turn sections on the highway remain high-risk.
“Based on our records, these U-turn areas are where accidents occur most often.
“Road users must pay attention and be careful,” he told reporters after distributing goodie bags and helmets to motorcyclists at Farley Samarahan here.
The warning comes ahead of the launch of Op Selamat 26, which runs from March 19 to 24 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The six-day operation aims to reduce road accidents, ensure smoother traffic flow, and enhance public safety.
Saifullizan also reminded all road users to stay vigilant and responsible, especially during the busy festive travel period.
