Customs officers at Miri International Airport detained a passenger on Monday as he travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan, after they uncovered over 2 kg of crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine hidden inside two portable speakers in his luggage.

The 42-year-old was selected for a secondary inspection when an X-ray scan revealed odd shapes concealed within the audio devices. Upon opening the speakers, officers recovered approximately 2.32 kg of white crystalline material, which the Royal Malaysian Customs Department values at around RM783,840.

He has been remanded for 14 days to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, where a conviction carries either a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment, plus a fine of up to RM5 million.
