Pair of Men Apprehended for Trespassing on Miri Plantation Soil

MIRI: Authorities have taken into custody two individuals over suspected illegal entry onto a privately owned palm-oil estate late yesterday night. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Miri District Police Headquarters set up a checkpoint in the Piasau vicinity around 9.30 pm and intercepted the duo inside the fenced plantation, where they were found carrying parang knives and black plastic sacks.

The suspects—aged 24 and 29—were promptly escorted to the Miri police station for questioning. During interrogation, the men admitted they had scaled the fence intending to harvest palm fruits without the landowner’s consent, an offence punishable under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

Initial assessments put the cost of repairing the damaged fencing and lost crops at approximately RM2,500. Both suspects were remanded by the Magistrate’s Court pending further investigations under Section 447. Police have urged regional landowners to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity on their properties.
