All infrastructure projects under the Works Ministry must be implemented as soon as possible without unnecessary bureaucratic delays, said its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He stated that this directive aligns with the clear instructions delivered by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his New Year address.
Key Directives for Infrastructure Implementation
Nanta pointed out that Anwar had emphasised that the strength of the civil service is the backbone of the nation. He noted that Malaysia’s ongoing recovery must lead to a stronger country or risk faltering if immediate action is not taken.
“The Ministry of Works was highlighted as a key ministry driving national recovery and development,” he added.
Immediate Priorities and Allocations
“Among the immediate priorities is the implementation of infrastructure projects at the state and district levels, with clear instructions that work must commence now rather than being stalled by bureaucracy,” he elaborated in a recent post.
Nanta also mentioned that the Prime Minister directed the RM2.4 billion allocation for small projects under contractor categories G1 to G4 to be rolled out without delay, stressing that these projects must not be postponed.
“All ministries, including the Ministry of Works, have been instructed to identify suitable small-scale projects by February 2026, focusing on initiatives that can be completed quickly and provide direct benefits to the public,” he noted.
Enhancing Flexibility and Efficiency
Furthermore, he indicated that the government would allow greater flexibility in construction methods to expedite delivery, including the use of modular systems and the Industrialised Building System (IBS).
“Allocations will also be available for ministries that can reduce costs and complete projects at least 25 per cent faster than the current benchmarks,” he mentioned.
“This strategy is vital to shorten project completion times, cut costs, and enhance quality,” he elaborated.
Commitment to Action
Nanta assured that his ministry would act promptly to ensure all directives are put into practice on the ground.
“As the minister leading the Ministry of Works, I will ensure that these directives are effectively implemented so that development reaches the people, the economy continues to progress, and confidence in the government remains strong,” he affirmed.
“Malaysia can only become a great nation if we act together and act now,” he concluded.
