A total of 132 senior citizens from Kampung Bunan Gega/Punok and surrounding areas were feted under the Sejambak Kasih programme held in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas celebration.
State Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben mentioned that this annual programme is organised ahead of major festive seasons such as Gawai and Christmas, reflecting a gesture of care and concern for the well-being of the local community, particularly senior citizens.
Supporting the Community
“The contribution is meant to help ease the burden of recipients in making preparations for the Christmas celebration on Dec 25,” he stated during the programme on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the Kedup assemblyman highlighted that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support the welfare of senior citizens in the area, ensuring they are included during festive occasions.
Benefits of the Kenyalang Gold Card
During the programme, Martin also urged recipients and representatives present to register as members of the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) programme, which provides various benefits to senior citizens.
Among the benefits are bereavement assistance to help with funeral-related expenses, as well as medical assistance.
“KGC cardholders are also eligible to receive RM500 a year for treatment at private clinics registered with the Social Welfare Department,” he added.
