Zahid Matserudin

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Lawas has raised significant concerns regarding the deteriorating mobile phone and internet connectivity in the district, impacting numerous residents.

The division chief, Zahid Matserudin, indicated that the party has received a multitude of complaints regarding the weak and unstable signals for both phone and internet services. He emphasized that this issue has persisted for years without any effective resolution.

Concerns Over Connectivity

“People on the ground are informing us that the signal is not only weak and unreliable, but Lawas still lacks access to 5G services,” he stated in his remarks.

Zahid pointed out that despite Lawas being a strategically important district in northern Sarawak, serving as a crucial gateway to Sabah and Brunei, its communication infrastructure is grossly inadequate.

“The absence of reliable internet and 5G connectivity affects numerous aspects of daily life, such as business operations, online education, government services, and potential future investments in the region,” he mentioned, specifically citing Kampung Sualai as one of the villages suffering from poor coverage.

Call to Action

He has called upon the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), along with state and federal governments and telecommunications companies, to provide explanations and take immediate corrective actions.

“Without serious and well-planned measures, the development gap between Lawas and other districts will continue to widen,” he cautioned.
