The Sarawak government has allocated RM50 million for the construction of a barrier aimed at preventing riverbank erosion at Kampung Mission, as announced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

According to the Bukit Sari assemblyman, a resettlement project has also been approved to protect the village from further impacts caused by the erosion of Sungai Lawas.

Government Prioritization and Historical Context

He emphasized that assisting villagers affected by natural disasters that cannot be avoided has become a priority for the state government.

“Kampung Mission holds significant historical importance, particularly for the Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Christians. This village is cherished as a cornerstone of SIB’s early development,” he remarked.

“The state government has endorsed the resettlement of the village, as confirmed during the Limbang Division Development Action Committee meeting held two days prior,” he stated at the district-level pre-Christmas event in Lawas last weekend.

Historical Background and Attendance
