Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof commemorates the opening of the new office by signing a plaque, observed by Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie.
In a recent event, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof voiced his support for the Federation of Sarawak Bumiputera Consulting Engineers (GJPBS) during the inauguration of the federation’s new office and training centre located at the Riveredge Commercial Centre, Jalan Merdeka.
During his speech, Fadillah emphasized his backing for the federation and its upcoming initiatives, stating, “I support all the activities and planning by the GJPBS.”
Significance of the New Centre
GJPBS chairman Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie highlighted that the newly established office and training centre would be essential for the association’s members, experts, partners, and clients. It is designed to be a venue for professional development and capacity building.
Irwan remarked, “Today marks the opening of our new office and training centre, which will serve as a hub for engagement, collaboration, and training for our members and industry stakeholders,” as he addressed reporters following the ceremony.
Future Plans and Funding
He elaborated that the facility would allow GJPBS to conduct professional engagement sessions and training programmes aimed at enhancing technical knowledge and industry-relevant skills. For instance, a workshop on artificial intelligence applications was held recently, attended by over 30 members.
Irwan noted that the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister at the opening ceremony was a significant encouragement for the federation’s ongoing initiatives. Additionally, he announced that a contribution of RM50,000 had been allocated to assist in establishing the new office.
Looking ahead, Irwan mentioned plans for a future centre of excellence, which is proposed to be located in Samarahan, close to other professional organizations like the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).
“This is a positive beginning for the association, but we still need to work hard to raise funds to build the centre of excellence,” he affirmed.
According to Irwan, land approval was granted in 2023, with several administrative processes still pending, including necessary submissions to relevant authorities, preparation of designs, and the tendering process. He noted, “The submission process alone can take between six months to more than a year,” and optimistically expected construction to start within the next two to three years.
Regarding government support, Irwan indicated that assistance could manifest in various forms, including financial aid and coordination with relevant agencies.
