SERIAN: The Kedup State Assembly area has received a significant allocation of RM2,493,000 through funding from the Unit for Other Religious Affairs (UNIFOR) and the Rural Small Projects (MRP) to develop church infrastructure and implement community programs in the region.
Out of this total amount, RM2,325,000 has been allocated by the Sarawak Government through UNIFOR to 12 churches in the Kedup constituency for repair and upgrading work of places of worship.
Commitment to Community and Spiritual Needs
This funding aims to enhance the comfort and safety of worshippers, reflecting the Sarawak Government’s ongoing commitment to preserving the sustainability of places of worship, which play a vital role as centers of spirituality and community.
The Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Rural Development, and also the Member of the State Assembly (ADUN) for Kedup, Datuk Martin Ben, stated that UNIFOR’s support is crucial for ensuring that repair work is carried out more effectively and systematically, in line with the current needs of the local community.
Accountability and Progress Reports
“Therefore, any church wishing to apply for new funding must submit a progress report of completed or partially completed projects as a form of accountability, particularly by the Chairman and Secretary of each church,” he said during the ceremony for handing over UNIFOR and MRP cheques at the Kedup Service Centre today.
At the event, attended by around 40 recipients and community representatives, Datuk Martin also presented MRP cheques to 14 recipients consisting of associations, clubs, and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to support the implementation of various community programs in the area.
