Police in Kuching have successfully apprehended 59 individuals during a comprehensive nine-day citywide drug sweep. This operation significantly disrupted various drug-related activities and resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at over RM2,600.

The initiative, known as ‘Ops Tapis Khas Narkotik’, was executed by the district police headquarters (IPD) with the aim of combating drug distribution and abuse within the district. The operation took place over a period that spanned from December 6 to December 14.

Details of the Operation

Throughout the operation, authorities confiscated several types of drugs, including 23.84g of methamphetamine and 0.90g of Erimin 5 pills, with the total estimated value of the drugs amounting to RM2,682.40.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported that 11 individuals were arrested specifically for possession offences. Of these, two were detained under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while nine others were arrested under Section 12(2).

Community Involvement and Future Actions

The remaining 48 suspects were taken into custody under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for substance abuse. ACP Chabu emphasized that the success of the operation was attributed to ongoing intelligence-gathering efforts and robust cooperation from the community.

“The police will not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities, as possessing, trafficking, or protecting such activities are serious offences under the law,” he stated. “The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) is committed to fighting against drugs to protect both present and future generations.”

Members of the public who have information regarding drug activities can reach out to the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
