Malaysian rock legends Search and XPDC electrified the audience in Kuching during the Fenomena Samurai Concert, which took place at the Indoor Stadium Petra Jaya. This remarkable event showcased nearly four hours of their greatest hits and evoked a wave of nostalgia.
Co-organised by Seri Simfoni and Bintang Batu Event, the concert attracted fans from various generations, including those who cherished the bands’ music from the 1980s and 1990s and younger fans experiencing it for the first time.
Concert Highlights
The opening act, Kyoji Band, energized the crowd with a vibrant performance, setting the tone for the legendary rock acts to follow.
XPDC kicked off their set with iconic tracks from their Samurai and Brutal albums, with frontman Zul Mamu engaging with the audience throughout their performance.
A memorable moment of the night was the surprise appearance of legendary XPDC vocalist Ali, who, despite facing health challenges, performed four songs instead of the planned one, garnering enthusiastic cheers from the fans.
Search Takes the Stage

Following XPDC, Search captivated the audience with their powerful renditions of songs like Fantasia Bulan Madu, Merah Di Ufuk Timur, Fenomena, and Isabella, led by Pasya, the runner-up of Mentor 7 in 2019.

The concert concluded with a spectacular encore featuring both bands performing Semangat Yang Hilang and Pawana, leaving the audience with unforgettable memories of rock and energy.
Fans traveled from various places, including Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and Singapore, to be part of this special event.
Future Plans and Gratitude
The director of the Fenomena Samurai Concert, Ikram “Atom” Zainuddin, expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government, sponsors, media, and production team, highlighting the challenges of staging concerts in Sarawak compared to Kuala Lumpur.
“We believe we have given our best – 200,000 percent. We hope fans enjoyed the show. If there’s an opportunity, we might come back to Sarawak again,” he shared during a post-concert press conference, hinting at potential future events in Miri and Sibu.

XPDC bassist Eddie conveyed the band’s appreciation for the enthusiastic turnout, acknowledging that while the stadium wasn’t at full capacity, the energy from those present was palpable.
“Alhamdulillah, even though I was a little disappointed the stadium wasn’t completely full… honestly, we did our best. We give our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported this concert. If other organisers want to do it again, we are happy to cooperate,” he stated.
Reflections from the Bands
Kid from Search expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the concert and the fans who attended, mentioning his excitement to perform in Kuching again at such a significant event.
“The last time I came to Sarawak was in 2011. Coming here this time, Kuching has really modernised — it almost feels like Kuala Lumpur,” he remarked.
