Likas assemblyman Tham Yun Fook has recently lodged a police report concerning allegations that Parti Warisan flags were intentionally placed on traffic signboards along the main road near the Sabah International Convention Centre. This act is said to have been executed to create a misleading impression that the party did not adhere to election regulations.

Tham emphasized that this act appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead both the public and the authorities into thinking that Warisan had failed to remove its campaign materials post-election. He highlighted that this was not an isolated incident.

Concerns Over Election Integrity

“We removed all our party flags and posters within a week following the election, fully complying with the Election Commission of Malaysia regulations. Thus, it is implausible that any campaign materials would have been overlooked at those locations,” he stated.

He did not dismiss the possibility that these flags were intentionally positioned in prominent places to mislead the public, the Election Commission, or City Hall.

“According to election laws, if a violation is confirmed, not only could my election deposit be forfeited, but I could also face serious repercussions, including disqualification from future elections. Therefore, we perceive this act as a potential sabotage of the electoral process’s integrity,” Tham remarked.

Calls for Public Vigilance

He noted that he and his team have continued to receive reports of similar incidents, despite their efforts to remove all campaign materials within a week after polling day and conducting personal inspections at the locations in question.

“Regrettably, there are still individuals engaging in malicious acts intended to confuse the public and damage the reputation of Warisan and myself,” he added.

Given the gravity of the situation, Tham filed a police report on Sunday at the Kepayan District Police Headquarters, accompanied by his legal affairs special assistant Jeremy Fung and public complaints special assistant Chow Wai Hao.

He urged the public to reach out to his office immediately if they encounter any Warisan campaign materials that appear misused, displayed abnormally, or suspected to have been intentionally placed.

“We remain committed to adhering to the law and election regulations, while promoting a fair and respectable democratic electoral environment,” he stated.

Tham requested that the police conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. He also informed the Election Commission that any future similar incidents should not be attributed to Warisan.
