Sarawak hammer thrower Grace Wong has achieved a remarkable milestone with her gold medal victory at the SEA Games 2025. This achievement will be recognized and rewarded, as stated by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In congratulating Grace on her outstanding performance, Abdul Karim noted that she had executed an exceptional display at the regional Games following her participation in the Malaysia Games (Sukma). He expressed his admiration, saying, “She performed very well to win the gold medal and broke the national record four times. That is a remarkable achievement.”

Inspiration for Future Athletes

Abdul Karim mentioned that Grace’s success should act as a source of motivation for other Malaysian athletes, encouraging them to pursue similar accomplishments on the international stage.

During a media interaction at the Fenomena Samurai Concert, held at Indoor Stadium Petra Jaya, he highlighted the significance of Grace’s victory for the sporting community.

Incentives for Medalists

Regarding incentives, Abdul Karim confirmed that both the federal and Sarawak governments will offer rewards for athletes who win medals. He assured, “There will be incentives. The federal government will give, and the Sarawak government will also give.”

He also mentioned that Sarawak athletes had received financial support prior to their departure for the SEA Games to aid in their preparations, stating, “We gave them some pocket money from Sarawak before they left.”

Grace recently secured the women’s hammer throw gold at the SEA Games 2025 with a commanding performance in the finals, breaking the national record multiple times and marking a significant achievement for Sarawak at this regional sporting event.
