The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has recently celebrated significant achievements at the TripZilla Excellence Awards 2025, where it received three notable honors: ‘Best Adventure Destination’, ‘Best Nature Destination’, and ‘Best Music Event Destination’ for the esteemed Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).
These accolades highlight Sarawak’s increasing global reputation as a premier destination for immersive travel experiences.
Acknowledging Contributions
The awards were presented by TripZilla general manager Benjamin Phey at the STB’s ‘Media Appreciation Night’, held at the Pullman Miri Waterfront. The event saw the presence of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, alongside over 60 media representatives from 21 local organizations.
In her speech, STB chief executive officer Dr Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor conveyed her deep appreciation for the recognition and emphasized the crucial role of the media in this journey.
The Impact of Media
Dr. Sharzede stated, “Sarawak’s story would not travel as far, or touch as many lives, without you,” referring to the media’s influence. She underlined that their efforts significantly shape how audiences perceive Sarawak and motivate travelers to explore its unique offerings.
She highlighted the remarkable outcomes from this collaboration, noting that media initiatives produced over 465 million digital impressions and RM138 million in public relations (PR) value from January to September this year, substantially enhancing the state’s profile.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As the event celebrated the achievements of 2025, it also set sights on the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026), aiming to attract 47 million visitors to Malaysia.
Dr. Sharzede remarked, “We have the culture. We have the nature. We have the warmth. And most importantly – we have you,” emphasizing the continued need for media support.
She expressed her desire to deepen media partnerships leading up to VMY 2026, stating, “Together, we will continue to shape how the world discovers Sarawak.”
