The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has revealed that its much-loved “Jingling Christmas Market” returns this December in both Sibu and Miri, offering festive cheer, handmade crafts, food stalls and entertainment for locals and visitors.
In Sibu, the four-day bazaar runs from December 15 to 18 at the Sibu Trade and Exhibition Centre. Scores of vendors will line the halls, showcasing everything from handcrafted decorations and giftware to authentic Sarawakian snacks and seasonal treats. Guests can enjoy daily live acts by local choirs, dance troupes and buskers, while children are invited to join colouring contests and meet Santa Claus in a specially adorned grotto.
After the Sibu festivities wrap up, the market moves to Miri, opening December 22 to 25 on the grounds of the Miri Civic Centre. Alongside artisanal booths and food kiosks, the Miri edition will feature nightly light spectacles and a carol-singing competition for schools and community groups. Visitors can also attend hands-on workshops by regional artists, including wreath-making and batik-painting demonstrations.
Dato Sri Abdul Wahab Aziz, STB’s general manager of marketing, said the Jingling Christmas Market is designed to highlight Sarawak’s vibrant cultural tapestry and support small enterprises. “After two years of restrictions, we’re thrilled to revive this festive celebration,” he said. “It’s a wonderful chance for residents and tourists to shop for unique gifts, savour Sarawak’s culinary offerings and experience our warm hospitality.”
To ensure safety, both events will enforce crowd management, mandatory temperature screenings and frequent sanitisation of high-traffic areas. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to follow recommended COVID-19 guidelines.
