Firefighters help evacuate the flood victims.
SIBU (Jan 10): A total of 11 residents from Rumah Eloh along Sungai Segan, Jalan Ulu Sebauh, Bintulu were evacuated to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at the Bintulu Civic Centre after their longhouse was inundated by floodwaters early on Saturday.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bintulu Zone 5 chief Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said all the victims were safely evacuated at 7.26am before being transported to the PPS using a JBPM truck.
“The victims comprised four adult women and seven children, and all of them have since been moved to a safe location,” he said in a statement.
In a related development, Wan Kamarudin said the Sebauh Community Hall has also been opened as a PPS, with two families affected by flooding currently being sheltered there.
He added that further updates will be announced from time to time as the situation develops.
